Hit List #4

Just a word of warning there is a slight overabundance of delicious food in this post I’ve been exploring new places with friends and of course it’s well documented that Melbourne does not disappoint in the world of food.  Read on for a little inspiration, food envy, laughter and pampering.

1. Lusting after: Check/Tartan/Plaid

Oh yeah its back and I’m loving every moment of it.  I’ve been counting down the ‘ahem’ years to pull out my old RPM plaid shirt (flannel of course!) and be able to wear Mr Long’s plaid shirts outside the house instead of reserving them for bed time in the depths of winter.  I’m a real sucker for a good shirt but my absolute favourite look including this reinvented trend is worn by Natascha from In Search of Sadie of course she’s gorgeous (and one of the nicest people ever to boot) but I love the long line skirt with the shirt wrapped around.  Not an easy style to pull off and I would never dare but I’m in just a little awe of her.

There have been a few potential purchases on my horizon like these guys from Zara, they’re a little more feminine than the usual “woodchuck” style and I could seriously utilise all of these in my wardrobe.

ImageI’m yet to find a winter dress I like but i guess Autumn is only just upon us.  I did find this felt Kotur Clutch maybe it’s a little much . . .

2. A delicious feast at:  Wide Open Road

As I mentioned before there is a lot of food in this post i’ll try and keep the mouth watering-ness to a minimum.  This is the first time we had been to the coffee roastery/cafe of Wide Open Road in Brunswick although we’d heard a lot about them.  I’m not about to review everything but I took a few photos and overall its daYummmm good food and the coffee wasn’t too bad either, the cafe is cool, staff are nice and there is a massive cabinet displaying all the delish looking cakes and pastries (sorry I was too busy salivating to take photos.)

I had the mushrooms but the rest of our brunch posse munched on the thick cut bacon dish.

My unbelievable mushroom dish.

Cool cafe layout.

and then there were these two grumps who look starved waiting for their meals to arrive. hahaha.

ImageGet there: 247 Barkly St, Brunswick, Vic.
I’m sure you won’t regret it.

3. Going crazy over:  Coconut Oil

I was a bit of a late bloomer getting on to this one.  We’ve been bombarded by stories of how coconut oil is pretty much the best thing in the world you can ingest, slather over your body, coat your hair in and swirl around in your mouth (thanks Naea for introducing me to the art/weirdness that is oil pulling). I bought a jar just to use as body moisturiser and a night cream . . . I’ll let you know how that goes but I don’t think I’ll ever look back.  The smell is so incredible you have to keep reminding yourself you’re not on a tropical island sipping Pina Coladas and you can lick your fingers after application?  Too much info?  Anyway this is what I bought and just a heads up it’s way easier to find and cheaper to buy in bulk online . . . like everything these days right?

4. Had some fun with the ladies at:  Acland St Cantina

What did I tell you?  There’s a food theme today!  It’s always fun to go out and have a little gossip session with the ladies and we’re all suckers for Mexican Food which the Melbourne restaurant scene has been nuts for for the last 2 years.  One of the most recent places to open is the Acland St Cantina in St Kilda and they have an epic Mexican menu that you can stare at for hours trying to decide between mouth watering dishes.   We got sat at a table near a freezing vent first up but the staff kindly moved us to the ‘moodier’ lounge booth with dim lighting and seats low enough to accommodate Miss Short’s wee legs :P.
