Nostalgia for the Senses.

Image

I have a fairly adequate perfume collection and the other day I thought I would go out wearing one I hadn’t worn since last summer.  As soon as the smell hit me all of these warm memories came flooding back and I was overwhelmed at how nostalgic I felt.  How funny is it that our sense of smell can have such an impact on our moods and memories?  Looking at my collection I realised I have strong memories from every single fragrance I have owned so I thought I would give you all a little insight . . .

DKNY Be Delicious

I’m pretty sure this was the first perfume I was obsessed with but my main memories of this fruity scent take me back to the time Miss S and myself took a 3 week indulgent holiday to the Gold Coast and Sydney.  I’m pretty sure I was in my second year of uni and I’m almost as sure that we went absolutely crazy drinking, spending our hard earned money and getting ourselves in to trouble as you do at that age.  Please be kind and don’t laugh at my hair!

This perfume brings back my strongest sense of nostalgia out of any.  I don’t currently have any in my collection but it used to be my go to casual for a few years.   I bought my first bottle in duty free the moment I stepped foot in Buenos Aires airport and that is the memory I get back any time I get a wiff.  It is the only perfume I had over our trip there in 2007 and throughout our adventure around South America.  That trip was possibly one of the most life changing, enjoyable experiences I have ever had so no wonder I always associate happiness with this smell.

Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia

Potentially my favorite perfume of all time.  I feel like this will be a scent I will always have in my ‘library’ and it completely reminds me of Mr L.   It was an Xmas present from Liam back in 2010 after I demanded that I need it (it’s still special though right?!) and its still my go to night scent.   Side note:  As i’m writing this I am almost convinced I need to take the sombrero gun photo down, sorry if it offends anyone!

The perfume is in one of the many presents behind me. Freaking LOVE Xmas at home!

Ralph Lauren Wild

I remember so vividly heading to Calgary when I was living in Banff to go Xmas shopping for Liam.  My close friend Emily and I got sidetracked in the perfume department of some store and became obsessed with the summery smell of this guy while we were currently facing -50ºC and more of Winter ahead. I didn’t own it straight away but whenever I smell Wild I remember the epic time in Canada we had.

Marc Jacobs Lola

I bought this while we were in California from Sephora (one of the many stores I became obsessed with!)  It reminds me of nights out in Southern California and Vegas back in 2009.  Shit I have been lucky with the travel I’ve had so far.

One of these comes our every year or two and I have been a fan of at least three of them.  The one I still have is from 2010 which my friend Emily (yes the same one that was in Canada) bought with her on a trip to meet me and Mr L in Byron Bay in 2010.  It’s exactly what it says summery, fruity and super easy to wear.  All I can think about is the Splendour in the Grass holiday when I smell it.

My latest addition to the collection and one that Miss S and I wear almost daily at the moment.  How cute is the bottle by the way?  This smell reminds me of Melbourne, nothing specific to speak of just a smell I will always think back to my current life in Melbourne.

Hope you enjoyed my wee walk down memory lane.  Let us know what your favourite scents are and what we need to try!  I’ll be heading back through duty free on my way home 😉
